Hi, my name is Nicola, age 9, and I am Emily’s daughter. I am going to be writing about tips and places to go in Sydney, Australia. The first thing I will be writing about is what age is appropriate for moving abroad. I think the kid’s age should be between 7-9. And I stayed for just over 1 year but the work visa is up to 4 years, you can do as long as you want but you have to pay for a citizenship and it takes so much time. I had just turned 8 when we moved. The second thing is there are cool touristy places to go in your first week or so. Bondi Beach, Manly, Wet n Wild Sydney, Taronga Zoo, Darling Harbour, Hyde Park, Circular Quay, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House, The Rocks, Wok on In (really good Thai food), Sea Life and Wildlife. Coming with a kid is super fun. Also, we met another expat and they left their 4-year-old kid with her grandparents for the first month or so before bringing her to Australia. I do not recommend that because then you don’t get to spend as much time with your kid! Overall I think living abroad is super fun even if you have to leave possessions you love and friends and family behind.
I think living abroad in Sydney did have some lows so if you hate having this happen to you then you probably shouldn’t move abroad. Leaving friends, leaving family, very hot sometimes, old houses and you have to buy a fridge instead of having it installed already, same with air con and heaters. You also have to make all new friends, although this turned out to be a really great part!
But living abroad in Sydney was also fun, here are some reasons why… nice beaches, weather, friendly people, lots of different nationalities and lots of things to see and do. And that’s why I LOVED moving abroad.
(Also, Nici is my nickname.)
